what is “permaculture”?

For Gribley, “permaculture” is the word used to describe big, open-minded, observation-oriented, regenerative land-based living systems that are intentionally designed for flourishing of human beings living within a natural ecosystem of which they are a part.

That’s a big philosophy to pack into one sentence! Click the button to learn more about how permaculture shapes my philosophies on land-management and living systems and why I choose to use the word “permaculture.”

A great blues band is playing and its just a beautiful spring morning. Come down and check it out! One of the foundational ethics of permaculture is “Care for the Earth.” It makes me so happy and hopeful to be part of this joyful celebration of Earth Day. How are you celebrating today?

In addition to beauty, color adds a lot of helpful information to the maps I create for my clients. I have always used colored pencils, but it’s fun to experiment with water colors 🎨

What a glorious weekend to be outside and preparing for the coming of Spring! Spent most of the day pruning trees - my favorite garden task. It’s quiet, not too physically demanding, and a great way to really connect with these amazing plants t
What a glorious weekend to be outside and preparing for the coming of Spring! Spent most of the day pruning trees - my favorite garden task. It’s quiet, not too physically demanding, and a great way to really connect with these amazing plants that provide so much in our ecosystems. It’s also a creative and complex puzzle. And remember, we’re running out of time this season to finish pruning fruit trees, so get to it if you’ve been putting it off!
Fire is an indelible part of our native ecosystem. Burning small parts of the garden can be hugely beneficial to the health of these areas where we are cultivating perennial plants. Always have plenty of water available if you do this too.

The @organicgrowersschool Spring Conference is next weekend- Feb 25 & 26 at Mars Hill University (just north of Asheville, NC). I’m excited to be teaching a class about Zone Zero Permaculture (which is an intro to Permaculture through the lens of Zone Zero - if you’re intrigued by what this means, good! Come check out the class 😉). I had the honor of being the Permaculture Track Leader, which means I helped coordinate the other teachers in the Permaculture Track. Lastly, this is my first year as a sponsor- I’ll have a booth set up in the Exhibition Hall where you can learn more about my business, my offerings, and look at my portfolio. Just finished building the booth design today. The OGS Spring Conference is one of my favorite events of the year, and I’m really looking forward to next weekend!
